97th Tour de France
3rd to 25th July 2010
![]()
The Tour de France starts in Rotterdam with a eight kilometre prologue time trial on, before heading for Belgian capital Brussels and eventually entering France by the North. This start will be difficult and nerve-wracking for the riders, who will have to brave the crosswinds in the Zeeland polders and then hit the cobbles when getting into France. The riders will have to take care of crashes, especially if it is raining.
Next the race will head for the Alps and it will be time for the climbers. The Alpine stages will be significant but not decisive for the final win, as the race will be fully played in the Pyrenees.
The 2010 Tour de France celebrates indeed 100 years since it first ventured into the Pyrenees mountains by including several legendary climbs in the 2010 race, and especially the climb of the daunting Col du Tourmalet which will be ridden twice in both directions. The Pyrenean stages, with four stages and twelve major difficulties in five days, promise to be spectacular and full of surprises.
The Bordeaux area, with its vineyards and castles, will welcome a particularly long time-trial (51 km), which will be the last chance for the candidates to the final win to go all out.
The Tour de France will finally arrive in Paris, for a finish on the cobblestones of the Champs Elysees. The overall ranking is usually settled before the final stage, yet completing the Tour de France on the “world’s most beautiful avenue” is for all riders distinguished achievement and for all spectators a wonderful show.
